The story of Wool-n-Wood......
Two years ago, Lesley Mann
went to Malawi to work as a volunteer in a home for
infants, 'Open Arms', Malawi. Before travelling out to Africa, she
and a friend made and sold felt handbags as a fund
raising venture to raise money for the children Lesley would be
working with.
This venture
proved to be very successful and she returned with a fantastic
array of fabric and wooden buttons with which to use in
making 'the bags'!
Malawi had
inspired, not only the creativity involved in making the bags
but had also engendered links with some of the local craftsmen. One of these is 'Hamilton Banda' who also carves ornaments for OpenArms.
It is now Lesley's aim to strengthen these basic trade links
and to donate a percentage made from the sale of each bag
to Open Arms, where it all began.
A link has also
been made with a small, family run,Malawian business called
'Afriganica' and wool-n-wood have a selection of their fabulous
products for sale .
